Born in Zürich, Switzerland, in 1974, I attended high school at KZU Bülach before going on to study mathematics and computer science at the University of Zürich.
I had the privilege of learning mathematics and statistics from some of the best. The lectures by Prof. H. Amann and Prof. E. Bolthausen during my first years at university had a profound impact on my mathematical thinking. I first learnt statistics from Andrew Barbour while attending his four-semester course. During my doctoral studies under his supervision, I came to appreciate a very different approach to mathematics and developed a strong interest in pursuing an academic career.
Adrian Baddeley generously hosted me during a two-year stay at the University of Western Australia, supported by an SNF fellowship for early-career researchers. He greatly nurtured my interest and abilities in point process statistics and scientific computing.
After returning to Switzerland, I took up a position as Senior Assistant at the University of Bern under the guidance of Lutz Dümbgen. His ability to pierce straight through statistical problems and expose their precise mathematics at any level of detail, has given me deep insights into many advanced areas of statistics.
